Logistics Coordinator (Former Employee) – Kuala Lumpur – 15 February 2019
The project was very challenging as there were many contractors on the project. Logistic and transportation needed to be planned well ahead and coordinated to avoid unseen issues. Communications was also an issue due to limited facilities.
Active and Expect Working Long Hours to meet dateline
Other Work Task (Former Employee) – Kuala Lumpur – 7 February 2019
Working culture was typical to any other oil and gas company.
Need to be visible to higher management if you want to excel in your career.
There are times that you have to be away from family due to job demand. Sometime it can hit 3 months away from family due to nature of engineering works based on location assigned.
Depending on whom you're reporting, you have to learn how to work as team and do not be selfish.
You have to learn to work independently and always think out of box. There were times that you need to adapt to new working environment.
Be prepared for change and don't get yourselves stress unnecessarily.
Career progression is not a straight forward. You'll need to attend technical training and later been assess by external parties to determine your competency. If you fail, you'll stuck at the same position and salary will be at ceiling.
Bonus based on Performance, Flexible working hours

General Manager (Former Employee) – Kuala Lumpur – 3 January 2019
PETRONAS provides a good training for many of us to acquire both technical and commercial skill as well as provide leadership training for potential leaders. Salary is also good and commensurate with your performance. Provides a lot of opportunities to grow and to be a good leader that will spearhead future company direction. Work environment is acceptable depending which department you are in. In general, work place is conducive.
Good salary among Oil & Gas company and job security
I was so happy with my working years with Petronas. Workplace culture was diverse. The hardest part of the job was spending more time in meeting than focusing on my department business. My most enjoyable part of the job when we celebrating with my team after we passing a milestone achievement of the project.
Senior Engineer (Current Employee) – Kuala Lumpur – 19 December 2018
After nearly a decade here, I can say Petronas is transforming into world class oil and gas company, upstream and downstream. It demands a very fast learner, however you will be provided with paid trainings, team guidance and coaching. High profile and international opportunities are abundant. You can go very far if you are the right person, in the right place, at the right time, working with the right person. Employee benefits are expanding so you can manage your work life balance better, possibly the best among Malaysian companies. With high performance culture, you are expected to be at your best at all time, innovative and energetic.
With that also, comes the appraisal system that might be seen by some as barbaric as you might need to go up against your colleagues to be the top talent, and there can only be one. And somebody has to be in the bottom to take the fall. Your annual appraisal rating will be marked for life and your ticket to better future, or your downfall. Results matter most but visibility is everything. Since implementation of VSS and less attractive contract, job security might be a challenge.
Continuous transformation, supportive working environment
Hierarchical Place, very good benefits, good advancement
